Station B – NUCLEAR, BIOLOGICAL, CHEMICAL (NBC) – Point B-1

TASK: Protect against chemical/biological contamination using assigned protective mask.

TEST CONDITIONS: Given assigned protective mask with hood and carrier worn in the leg-carry position or worn in the underarm position in one of the following situations:

1. Hear or see a chemical or biological attack.

2. Realize through other means that a chemical or biological attack is underway.

3. Ordered to mask.

4. Enter a contaminated area.

TEST STANDARDS: Don assigned protective mask, to include checking and clearing, within nine seconds after removing (Kevlar or CVC) helmet.

NOTE: The above task includes the M17, M40, or M42 protective mask. Performance measures 2 through 8 are not timed but must be performed in sequence.

SOLDIER’S MANUAL CROSSWALK: The performance measures differ in this task from TRADOC Common Core Task 031-503-1035. See TM 3-4240-279-10, TM 3-4240-339-10, TM 3-4240-343-10, FM 3-4 and FM 3-5 for references for this task.

EQUIPMENT REQUIRED FOR POINT: Stopwatch, clipboard, field table, pencil, and FB Form 20-7.1-R.

SITE SETUP: No specific site setup required.

Once masked, the candidate continues to wear the protective mask throughout the NBC testing.

INSTRUCTIONS TO CANDIDATES: Say to the candidates–

“Let me have your attention. At this point you must protect yourself from chemical/biological contamination using your assigned protective mask. You must don, check, and clear your mask within nine seconds. We will not time performance measures 2 through 8, but you must perform them in sequence to receive a GO for this point.

“When you have completed performance measure 6, the scorer will give the ALL CLEAR. When you hear ALL CLEAR, you will do performance measures 7 and 8. To receive a GO, you must perform all eight performance measures in sequence.

“If you are wearing glasses or contact lenses, remove them at this time.”

If anyone has questions, repeat the instructions but do not elaborate on what you have read.

Pause five seconds and then say–

“BEGIN.”

Allow the candidate to proceed for two minutes and then say-

“STOP.”
