Colleges in Nevada
Nevada is known for sunny weather and wide-open spaces. Nevada's major cities are Las Vegas in the south and Reno, more than 400 miles to the northwest. While both locations enjoy a sunny, desert climate, Reno experiences considerable winter weather with its mountainous location and high altitude. This makes Reno an ideal spot for winter recreation with numerous ski areas within a 90 minute drive.
Both Las Vegas and Reno are located near California, so students attending Nevada schools have access to the considerable recreation opportunities that both states have to offer. Up north, Reno is about 45 minutes from the heavenly beauty of Lake Tahoe, and Las Vegas is famous for its glitzy nightlife. Nevada is an Army-friendly place. Although there are no Army bases in Nevada, there are several military bases, and Fort Irwin in California is about 100 miles from Las Vegas.
