Standards: Established voice communications with the distant tactical radio/network within three minutes.

Conditions:
Given an operational radio set (SINCGARS,
IHFR, VRC-12 series, etc.), with an (SOI),
fill device with appropriate fills, and fill
cable, TM 11-5820-890-10-8, TM
11-5820-401-10-2, and an operational distant
station.

Steps

1.   Place radio into operation.

Preset controls.

Turn radio set on.

Test radio transmission (RT)
circuits.

2.   Enter net.

Load appropriate fills.

Operate radio set.

3.   Transmit message.

Establish secure
communications.

Use prowords, call signs,
frequencies, item numbers and
authentications.

Preparation: 

Setup:
An operational radio set (SINCGARS, IHFR,
VRC-12 series, etc.), with an (SOI), fill
device with appropriate fills, and fill

station.

Brief
Soldier: 
Tell the soldier he must establish
voice communications with the distant
tactical radio/network, within three
minutes. The three-minute limit is only an
administrative training requirement.

Guidance: 
Score the soldier GO if all
performance measures are passed. Score the
soldier NO GO if any performance measure is
failed. 
If the soldier fails any performance
measure, show what was done wrong and how to
do it correctly. 
Have the soldier practice until the
task can be performed correctly.
