Boot Camp Diary #1

» BCT Day 22
Whew. Big scare yesterday, huh? We redeemed ourselves today and gained our personal time back. I don’t know how long until someone ***** up and they take it away again.

» BCT Day 6
Let’s see…Today we got to hold a dummy M16 A2 rifle. It’s made to specifications of a real rifle, but they don’t trust us with real heat yet.

» Hell: Day 00
My recruiter called at about 8:45am, saying he had to go to the doctor and that I have to go up to the recruiting office on my own. Cendy was nice enough to give me a ride. I went in to the office and they handed me some papers and shook my hand.

» BCT Day 31
Yay. Time to write. I even have time to write complete sentences. Today was fun. We shot at multiple targets at different distances up to 300 meters. It’s all up to practice for qualifying on the rifle on Thursday. If I don’t hit 24 out of 40, I have to be recycled to the beginning of white phase. I didn’t do too hot on the range today and my ears are still ringing.

» BCT Day 42
The pace slowed way down from yesterday to today. We got fitted for our class A uniforms almost all day. Those are the really fancy military uniforms worn for ceremonial occasions. I looked so sharp. I couldn’t stop saluting myself in the mirror.

» BCT Day 34
Here I am at the shooting range. Isabella is locked, cocked, and ready to roll. I got her nice and lubricated last night and she’s been marinating all night ready for action. We are at the same range that I have to qualify at in two days. I wore my civilian glasses so that my helmet doesn’t push down on my coke bottle ugly ass birth control glasses.

» BCT Day 63
Will write tomorrow. Very good day, but busy packing. No time for correct sentences.

» BCT Day 64
Yesterday was one of the most, if not the most anticipated days of my 20 year life. I saw my people for the first time in ten and a half weeks.

» BCT Day 19
No personal time today. I had to do 50 push ups for not having my boots shined. They looked shiny to me. Oh well.

» Day 1
It has been less than 24 hours since arriving. It feels like I’ve been here 2 days. The days in reception are full of hurry up and wait. You wait 2 hours and hurry to do something that takes 10 minutes.

» BCT Day 53
Woo hoo! Another Sunday is here. That means I slept under the covers last night since it’s linen turn-in and dreamt about my girl. It means I’ll eat cake, I’ll write letters, and I might get a phone call and/or trip to the PX.

» BCT Day 3
Today we took our PT(physical fitness) test. The drill sergeant screwed me on it. He waited until I did 25 push-ups before telling me that they were not proper form and didn’t count. I only had 20 correct ones left in me after getting smoked earlier at 0500.

» BCT Day 46
Sunday, Sunday, Sunday! Yesterday was operation appreciation. It was a nice change of scenery. The bus ride was an hour long. I tried looking out the window, but it took me five minutes of leaving the base to realize that there’s nothing to look at in Kentucky. The radio was on a country music station. That combination put me to sleep irresistibly. We went to a church in Louisville.

» BCT Day 57
Man it feels good to be back to civilization. We’re back in the barracks, turning all our **** in. I am done with training. I am a soldier.
