Boot Camp Diary #1

» BCT Day 48
Today is the last day of training before FTX. It’s going to be a long day. ITT is scheduled from 0730 to 2300. We’ll be out in the field all day. I’m assuming we’re doing night infiltration.

» BCT Day 26
It was gas chamber day. I went in with a mask, but they make sure you take it off inside and get a good whiff and open your eyes. Picture this: you know how you skin feels when you have a cut and you bathe in the ocean? That’s how my face, neck, and hands felt, only multiplied a few times.

» Day 6
Wake-up was 0330. In civilian terms, that’s really ******* early. It’s all good though because I was knocked out by 10:30pm. We finally took our PT test. It was easy for me, but four of our guys weren’t as fortunate.

» BCT Day 5
Today was a very easy day. Basic has turned out easier than I expected. All I have to do is listen to the drill sergeant and shut my mouth. Also, follow directions carefully and don’t do anything they don’t tell you to do.

» Hell: Day 0
Wake-up was 4am. I was able to get 5 hours of sleep, which in the military, you’re lucky to get. Next is breakfast and MEPS.

» Day 4
I went to the dentist today. Not by choice. You don’t have many around here. It was cool though. I got a free filling that I needed and it didn’t hurt at all. The dental clinic was very modern and the army personnel were courteous and professional.

» BCT Day 28
Exactly five weeks until family day. Today started fast. We had a company run(250 people). It was 2 miles at a fast pace. I’m road guard, so of course, I had to run twice as hard. It was cool to be leading the pack.

» BCT Day 4
It is Sunday. So far, it’s been an easy day. We’re cleaning up, organizing our wall lockers, we’re getting a haircut later, and going to the PX*. I’ll be able to buy cold medicine and cough drops because I know I’ll have a sore throat for the next two days.

» Day 3
Didn’t do a whole lot today. Got some shots, dog tags, and an ID card. I love my ID. I look so badass. By 1:15pm we were done. Unless someone ***** up and tries to sneak out to use the phone, we’re free for the rest of the day. But around here, you never know.

» Day 5
It’s Sunday. We got a little bit of extra sleep. Wake-up was at 0600. I got a full 7.5 hours of sleep. Wooow. I’m looking forward to a day full of personal time. Marck’s got some dirty drawers to take care of.

» BCT Day 55
We did night vision at night. We just walked a little with night vision goggles. Everything looked green. Alienrific. Sleeping sucked. Very uncomfortable. I’m too lazy to take out my sleeping bag. I slept with Isabella and at least 100 species of bugs.

» BCT Day 56
Last day of FTX. I’m pulling security right now. It’s done a lot during FTX. It’s nothing but sitting or laying quietly waiting for the enemy. It gives me much needed rest.

» BCT Day 14
The PT continues. They’re seriously trying to get us into shape before our next PT test, which is soon.

» BCT Day 27
Moving right along, moving right along. I’ll see you all soon. It’s going to go by really fast for a while.

» BCT Day 8
Today was a busy, busy day. We were issued our two most important pieces of equipment: gas mask and M16 rifle, baby. We went to a class in the morning about proper wear of the mask.
