Colleges - Degrees in Business

Military personnel can make a smooth transition to a business career with the right education and training. A military career can build many skills, such as management and leadership. These skills are valuable in business careers as diverse as financial management, purchasing, auditing and accounting, meeting and convention planning and insurance underwriting.

Business schools and military friendly business colleges offer a range of programs to prepare for the requirements of these different occupations. A bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, economics, or business administration is usually required for a job in financial management, and many financial managers hold a master's degree or professional certification. Financial analysts need a bachelor's degree, and an MBA can be extremely useful, while insurance underwriters often need a bachelor's degree with a major in finance or business administration.

Military-friendly business programs for future career prospects

The United States Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reports the following mean annual salaries for 2009 and projected job growth from 2008 to 2018 for these business occupations:

  • Meeting and convention planners: $48,060; 16 percent growth
  • Accountants and auditors: $67,430; 22 percent growth
