Active Army personnel who like the wide open spaces of Texas find themselves right at home at Fort Hood. The military life here is exceptional. Fort Hood is the largest active duty armored post in the U.S. Its nickname is The Great Place because of the sized of the installation (340 square miles), as well as the newest housing and finest military medical facilities anywhere.
