Schools in Utah Near Dugway Proving Ground

The Dugway Proving Ground covers an area roughly the size of Rhode Island within the Great Salt Lake Desert of Utah, making it the Army's largest land mass facility. It's the Defense Department's primary site for chemical and biological defensive testing.

Salt Lake City is 85 miles northeast of the base, and several more attractions such the Grand Canyon and Yellowstone National Park are no more than an 8-hour drive away. The remote location makes this base extremely popular with stargazers. The skies are so clear the University of Utah, along with some other universities, built a cosmic ray experiment facility. The Dugway Proving Ground also offers numerous education opportunities for adults and children alike. The education center provides academic and career counseling, tuition assistance, and a computer lab. A school liaison helps children settle into new schools while other groups provide classes and programs both before and after school and during the summer.
