  • Review Command policies and SOPs
  • Learn the unit's METL
  • Work with sponsor to get settled in
  • Review training schedule and duty roster
  • Make a plan for short and long term personal and organizational goals
  • Get a copy of the rating chain (if applicable)
  • Update promotion packet (if applicable)
  • Prepare for promotion board
  • Maintain good physical condition
  • Maintain good/positive military bearing at all times on and off duty
  • Resolve all current problems and any problems that may come up in the future ASAP

Possible Leader Responsibilities: (This is only an example for you to use as a guide).

  • Review the job description and any additional duties with the soldier and outline the expected standard
  • Tell the soldier what duty rosters that they can expect to be on
  • Brief the soldier on the unit's METL and any deployment or readiness issue
  • Give the soldier an orientation of the unit and installation
  • Assist the soldier in resolving any problems they may have
  • Provide the soldier with a copy of the commander's policies and unit/section SOPs
  • Provide the soldier with a copy of the rating scheme (if applicable)
  • Assist the soldier with any problem with promotion, leave, pay or school
  • Provide the soldier with a copy of the current training schedule
  • Assign a sponsor to the soldier if not already done
