Army forces use all different kinds of weapons, from small field artillery to large ballistic missiles. It’s the Multiple Launch Rocket System Repairer’s responsibility to keep these weapons operating properly.

As an essential member of the Army’s weapons maintenance team, the Multiple Launch Rocket System Repairer is primarily responsible for direct and general support-level maintenance on the Multiple Launch Rocket System, a self-propelled launcher-loader artillery weapon system that’s used in the field during combat.

Some of your duties as a Multiple Launch Rocket System Repairer may include:

  • Repairing and maintaining artillery and infantry weapons
  • Cleaning and maintaining gyroscopes, sights and other electro-optical fire control components
  • Repairing and maintaining missile mounts, platforms and launch mechanisms
  • Testing and adjusting weapons firing, guidance and launch systems
  • Replacing or repairing faulty electrical, hydraulic and mechanical assemblies
  • Testing equipment for fault isolation

Training:

Job training for a Multiple Launch Rocket System Repairer consists of nine weeks of Basic Training, where you’ll learn basic Soldiering skills, and 18 weeks, one day of classroom instruction, including practice in repairing and replacing equipment parts. Some of the skills you’ll learn are:

  • Principles and concepts of electronics and mechanics
  • Using electronic, electrical and mechanical test equipment
  • Using schematics, drawings, blueprints and wiring diagrams
  • Operating, testing and maintaining weapons systems

Helpful attributes include:

  • Interest in mathematics and science
  • Interest in electronic equipment or electrical equipment
  • Ability to do work requiring accuracy and attention to detail
  • Interest in working with weapons

Advanced Responsibilities:

Advanced level Multiple Launch Rocket System Repairers supervise and train other Soldiers. As an advanced level Multiple Launch Rocket System Repairer, you may be involved in:

  • Performing quality control measures
  • Installing equipment modifications
  • Providing technical assistance to supported units
