The success of any Army mission can depend on keeping automotive and heavy equipment in good working condition. Construction Equipment Repairers maintain and repair trucks, bulldozers, power shovels and other equipment needed for construction operations.

Construction Equipment Repairers are responsible for maintaining construction equipment that's used for earthmoving, grading, and compaction; lifting and loading; quarrying and rock crushing; asphalt and concrete mixing and surfacing; water pumping; air compression and pneumatic tools; and power bridging.

Some of your duties as a Construction Equipment Repairer may include:

• Maintaining and replacing brake actuators, batteries, starter motors, alternators, mechanical fuel pumps and hydraulic cylinders
• Adjusting engine speed governor/valves, carburetors, dry-disc clutches, steering brakes and fuel injector racks
• Charging suspension accumulators, transmission shift accumulators and main hydraulic accumulators
• Troubleshooting problems in vehicle engines, electrical systems, steering, brakes, and suspensions
• Tuning and repairing engines
• Replacing or repairing damaged body parts, hydraulic arms or shovels, and grader blades
• Establishing and following schedules for maintaining vehicles

Training:

Job training for a Construction Equipment Repairer consists of nine weeks of Basic Training, where you'll learn basic Soldiering skills, and eight to 29 weeks of Advanced Individual Training. Part of this time is spent in the classroom and part in the field. You'll learn:

• Engine repair and tune-up
• Troubleshooting mechanical and electrical problems
• Repairing and replacing body panels, fenders and radiators

Advanced Responsibilities:

Advanced level Construction Equipment Repairers supervise and train other Soldiers within the same discipline. As an advanced level Construction Equipment Repairer, you may be involved in:

• Troubleshooting, repairing and overhauling engines, final drives, power trans, hydraulic systems and fuel system components
• Performing welding and cutting in order to accomplish repairs
