Maintain an M60 machine gun

Station L – M60 MACHINE GUN – Point L-1

TASKS: 1. Maintain an M60 machine gun.

2. Perform a function check on an M60 machine gun.

TEST CONDITIONS: During daylight, given an M60 machine gun.

TEST STANDARDS:

1. Disassemble the M60 machine gun into eight major groups within three minutes.

2. Assemble the M60 machine gun and perform a function check within three minutes.

SOLDIER’S MANUAL CROSSWALK: This task is based on STP 21 1 SMCT task number 071 312 3026 and STP 7 11BCHM14 SM TG task number 071 312 3025, and FM 23-67. Do not perform maintenance on the machine gun or ammunition during the EIB test.

EQUIPMENT REQUIRED FOR POINT: M60 machine gun, canvas or tarpaulin, dummy cartridge or nail, stopwatch, clipboard, field table, and FB Form 20 29.1 R.

SITE SETUP: Place a bipod mounted M60 machine gun beside the canvas or tarpaulin. Place a dummy cartridge or nail on the canvas or tarpaulin so that it is in plain view of the candidate. Clear the gun and place the weapon on SAFE.

INSTRUCTIONS TO CANDIDATES: Say to the candidates–

“Let me have your attention. At this point you must maintain an M60 machine gun and perform a function check on an M60 machine gun.

“You will disassemble the M60 machine gun into eight major groups within three minutes. Then you will assemble the M60 machine gun and perform a function check within three minutes. Do you understand what you must do?”

If anyone has questions, repeat the instructions but do not elaborate on what you have read.

Pause five seconds and then say —

“BEGIN disassembly.”

Allow the candidate to proceed for three minutes and then say–

“STOP.”

Wait ten seconds and then say–

“BEGIN assembly and perform the function check.”

Allow the candidate to proceed for three minutes and then say–

“STOP.”

The scorer will perform a function check to ensure proper assembly.
